November Intentions

novemberintentions

I’ve been making intentions and setting goals each month for over a year now. If you want to go see past posts you can click here. Having goals for the future and intentions on what I want to accomplish now shows you what you’re working towards and how far you’ve come. This is in hopes of you also linking up with Hodge Podge Moments and telling us yours. Here’s a refresher of my October Intentions were and also whether I feel like I met them or not:

  1. Stick to my blog schedule M/W/F/Sun
  •  schedule time to brainstorm and write blogs
  • Schedule social media with Hootsuite
  • Make use of #powerhour with Pamela and Raewyn

I did really good with this one and I think I met everything I set out to do. On my phone I have a master list of ideas that I built on more and pulled from for October and November. Late night #powerhour with Pam and Rae and scheduled social pretty well this past month.

2. Keep house in order (chore days & weekends catch up)

  • Laundry-Tuesday or Thursday
  • Dishes-at use or at nights before bed
  • Vacuum-Wednesdays
  • Shorties Cage: Saturday
  • Tidy- Daily

I would say I accomplished this section too as I didn’t have a schedule but the house has stayed and been maintained clean for awhile now. I have been cleaning Shorties’ cage and feeding her regularly as well. CHECK!

3. Create a daily routine

  • Make and follow a morning routine
  • Make and follow a nightly routine

Did NOT do this. BOO! FAIL! We got on a bad sleep schedule and I messed my whole life up. Feeling a  lag for over a week or two now so I’m trying to change that. And at least get up earlier to get motivated and be a productive adult. Making a routine will help so it’s on my to do list for sure.

4. Organize/Update Blog

  • make drafts/brainstorm re-do pages (Emily Finta)
  • create idea for uniform graphics
  • create categories and update tags
  • mission statement & welcome page

I didn’t get to this either although I have been randomly updating tags, categories and some lacking blog posts. That’s something right? I’ll work on this more over the next month or so when I’m able to take on more.

5. Create a self love/self care time daily-weekly

  • write daily in instant happy journal
  • read excerpt from find your happy daily mantras
  • write a bit in 52 weeks of ….. happiness/list project books
  • read/listen to a self growing type of book (audible, blog related or like “complaint free world”

This was a 50% type of thing, I did pretty well but not my best. I have been pampering myself such as sweets, cuddle time and face masks. Also I have been taking lots of time to write but not as much to read- that’s to be worked into my daily schedule as well. Soon my dears! Cheer me on!

6. Learning Hour-make the blog better, streamlined and grow it

  • do things about learning how to make the blog better
  • read ebooks, webinars and posts about growing, social media etc.
  • newsletter business
  • batch-writing and blog scheduling

Learning hour has been helpful and I know I can and will do more. I’ve watched some webinars and taken lots of notes but nothing further than that. Batch writing is commencing so maybe this week/weekend will be a test phase for that one. I’m still determined to get a newsletter up and running as well so let’s jump on that business bandwagon. What do you think of a blog newsletter? Do you have one? Is it necessary for growth? Helpful, in what ways?

novintentionspin

These are my intentions and goals for November:

1.Keep my blogging schedule M/W/F/

  • Brainstorm and come up with original ideas
  • Schedule social media with Hootsuite a week at a time
  • #powerhour with Pamela and Raewyn each night

2.Keep house in order (weekends as catch up)

  • Laundry 1x weekly as needed
  • Dishes daily (help from roommate on weekends)
  • Vacuum weekly and tidy daily as needed

3. Plan out and create a daily routine (make blog post out of it)

  • make some daily structure (get up, shower, get dressed, feed dogs, blog hour, clean time, make meals, read, write, etc)
  • make a nightly routine and find a sensible bedtime that works for me (to get tired again)

4. Organize Update Blog

  • create uniform graphics for posts
  • work on tags/categories/update archived posts in blog
  • sketch out design/layout of pages for Emily Finta

5. Take time (more structured*) for self love (including: writing, reading and self care)

  • face masks, hot showers, tea and a good book, writing in IHJ daily and on time (get caught up today)
  • write in 52 weeks of…….. books for grateful and thankfulness
  • continue and finish “You are a Badass” on audible- perhaps while blogging, take any notes needed for growth

6.Learning Hour-make the blog better, streamlined and grow it

  • read e-books, webinars and posts about growing, social media etc.
  • newsletter (GET IT GOING! SCHEDULE IT by October 15th)
  • batch-writing and blog scheduling ( needs to be done daily with Social Media batching weekly)

So, I hope I can progress further than I did last month. I didn’t get much accomplished. However, starting off this month strong by batch writing and sharing everything effectively gives me hope. I’d love to know what your goals or intentions are. Updating my stats as well to see how far I’ve come in the last year will be exciting. Good Luck and Happy November!

Why We Don’t Want Kids & Why That’s Okay

wwdwk

I always wanted kids growing up. I wanted to be married at 21, first kid by 23 and second kid or third kid by 25 or 26. I thought I had planned every step out.It was a priority for me to be a stay at home mom like my mother was. She took care of the house and did it all.  And to think back on it now, I wasn’t very thankful at the time. Now I realize how much it really takes just to live and get on day to day with kids.

kids are expensive

Having children is expensive- like thousands; maybe even a couple hundred thousand over their lifetime. *A birth without complications can be something like $1900 for a vaginal birth and when you’re talking emergency C section or something goes really wrong, your bill could shoot straight up to almost $10,000 (or more). The average in america for the price of an uncomplicated birth is $3500. With vaginal complications you’ll be shelling out an even $6900 as if it were a C-section.*  Even if you have insurance and low co-pays (good coverage etc) you’re gonna pay a lot of money. After that, literally every step of their life you are spending money on them. From birth to the day they leave your house and sometimes longer if they decide to live at home longer or need more help. However it does depend on your provider and type of insurance- I have heard higher claims and lower claims. It’s still a LOT of money.

*based on 2011 study by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project*

you can’t do what you want when you want

Once you have a baby your freedom lessens. I’d say it disappears but that may be unfair to parents who can do-it-all. But the way  you manage your time is never the same. You cannot just get up and go because when you have a kid, the child goes everywhere you go. If you have no babysitter or significant other that can share the responsibility-then date night, study sessions and having any kind of functional social life is near impossible. I like being able to make decisions on a dime and not have to pack a diaper bag or car seat before we take off and go. Not having to second guess my plans or my curfew. Or even calling up a friend for childcare help because I have a final the next morning. I want to be able to go get my hair and nails done when I want without worrying. I’m a slightly selfish person when it comes to material things ok, at least I can admit it. I want to keep my freedom and self reliance. Without kids there isn’t as much planning involved. I just have more wiggle room in general.

I’m selfish (kinda the same thing but not)

I want to do what I want when I want, Period. End of story. I don’t want to have to worry about a child being in the middle of all my plans. It makes everything have another layer of complication. Granted we have two doxies and they are a handful already. And if we ever traveled they’d either A) come with or B) we’d have to arrange a sort of stay for them just like kids. But dogs are still less maintenance than children. People will argue with me over that- I don’t wanna hear the comparisons.

I don’t want to raise a child, I don’t enjoy kids sometimes

I don’t want the responsibility and life long dedication it takes to raise up a kid from infancy to adulthood, 18+years which is now more like 21+ years with general cost of living and more. Schooling is very expensive as well with clothes, supplies and sports. You could go broke with those costs yearly alone. It’s crazy to me that more of this isn’t just covered by the school or somehow funded already. It costs nearly a quarter of a million dollars to raise a child at last estimate. That is a lot of McDonalds. That’s most of a down payment on a house. I mean c’mon people-kids are wonderful but that’s huge. It’s like, You WIN “flip a coin: a kid or a house?” How crazy is that?!

You cannot guarantee your child’s’ attitude and behavior and I wouldn’t want a bratty, horrible kid. I couldn’t tolerate it. I tend to believe things are set in stone. You are supposed to teach your child how to behave and how to function in the world. That’s what parenting is- and I don’t feel like I’d make a good one. I’m still learning myself and failing quite a bit. Once a child is ruined in every capacity- they just are and there’s no going back. And that is then, your fault. I don’t want to ruin a child or a whole life for that matter. That kind of disappointment in the kid and in yourself would stick with you for life.

When we were first married, it was constantly “when are you having kids?” “why wait?” “how much money do you have saved?” That was back when we initially wanted kids right away and unbeknownst to anyone- we tried for a short time.  Now that we have flipped the script and decided against kids several years later,  everyone can’t stop and won’t stop pressuring us about when we are having kids. It’s so shameful to think that people pressure others into having kids for the wrong reasons. In the end, it’s my body and our choice as to when and if we have kids.  Besides that, we are trying to be responsible by not jumping into something we aren’t ready for. Shouldn’t people be proud of us for that instead? Financially speaking- we’ve been selfish, careless even because we chose to and that’s no mentality for having a baby. For right now and the foreseeable future, we are happy being a two person, two dog family. They [our dogs] fulfill our lives in ways that couples with kids feel. We have a lot of the same triumphs and similar hardships. Our life is just perfect for us and our fur-kids.

How did you decide you were ready for kids? Did you always want them or did you change your mind along the way? Did you ever get pressured one way or the other? I hear it’s quite common..

Thanks for reading and hopefully relating to my story

BEST WEEK EVER! 6/25-7/3/16

Back in like December we planned having one of Sean’s friends, Justin, to come stay with us for a week to hang out and show him the around Portland. He has never been to Oregon so we had a lot to pack in for 8 days. June 25th we had him fly in and we were all so excited for a fun week! We arrived early and had a lovely breakfast at Beaches. Then we learned his flight was delayed and bags were “misplaced”-although they were on the flight and the flight was only delayed due to Obama being in town for a conference.  He easily found us, we grabbed his bags and we were on our way!

oregonzoo

Since we promised all these great outings we got right to it the next day. We all got up bright and early to head off to the Oregon Zoo! We saw the new elephant habitat (that tripled in size) and their new lake outdoor area.  We saw the cheetahs and their habitat, none of us realized that they were so naturally thin in body size. We also really enjoyed the sea lion and the giraffes. I really enjoyed all of it. We did get stuffed animals and tee shirts on our way out as well- Justin had to have a memento to take back with him.  On the way home we stopped by Hawthorne which is a hipster/chill kind of street in the SE Portland area with all kinds of cool shops and restaurants. But we were too tired from the zoo so we didn’t stay long. We walked up and down once and took a different way home.

hangingout

The next day we went to the mall to explore, spend a bit of “fun time” and show him some cool stores that had some gaming and nerdy stuff that he’s into. We jumped into Famous Footwear, Game Stop, Hot Topic and Build a Bear.

darcells

After a day of rest, the next place we took him was Darcells, a local famous drag club and show in downtown Portland. It’s a great venue and lots of fun for everyone alike. It’s about an hour long show in which people basically get (drag)ged up on stage and embarrassed. The victim this time- was my very straight husband and not our very not straight friend and it was his birthday too. It was pretty funny! We got lots of pictures and video which you can check out below… get ready!

DBTippy

The night after we celebrated Sean’s birthday at Dave & Busters, the adult arcade and restaurant. We invited Sean’s parents too so they could come celebrate a little and having dinner together. Each of us enjoyed a drink (or two) and some easy lovely dinner. Sean’s parents have never been there so they checked out the arcade and looked around and then went home so we could play games. A few hours later we had played almost all the games and earned about 11,000+ tickets/points to redeem. He was able to get a giant (2ft or more) Pikachu Pokemon. He was SO excited to get it and bring it home- we still have to ship it back to Kansas. At some point we went to Shirleys Tippy Canoe restaurant. It was on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives show on Food network – the view and the food were incredible! We have gone back since, still amazing and great live music on weekends.

The last day we took a walk around the lake and saw the Finding Dory movie. We took the dogs with us on the walk and Maggie was so tired by the end of it panting and laying on the cool floor. Bouncer loved the walk and was happy the whole way. We took a few pictures on the way and talked about the differences between Kansas and Oregon. The movie was amazing! It was much more heartfelt and emotional than the first edition but had some parts when Dory was just “being Dory”.  It also touched base on a lot of the prior movie and the details in it. I really enjoyed it and might have gotten teary eyed a few times.

When we act ually had to take him to the airport to be honest, it was hard because a week with someone new, having all this fun and then to see them fly home and return to “real life” is hard to do. We spent some time, got his ticket printed, checked him into his flight and then we hugged and said goodbye. We miss him a lot but the guys talk frequently and he’ll be planning to come back again next year with his vacation days off. I’m so happy it all worked out and he really enjoyed his first trip to Oregon! Next time…… BEACH!

Reading:

I just finished  the audio book version of “Is everyone hanging out without me?” By Mindy Kaling and I thought it was so great! It was just cute, easy to relate to and funny throughout the whole thing.  Would you like to see a book review of it?  Let me know in the comments below.

Watching:

I’ve been crazily watching tv! It’s been my favorite past time and at the top of list of things to do when I’m bored- I’ll always choose a new show to watch or catch up with. These are things I’ve watched recently, TV, Netflix, and Hulu.

  • Last Man Standing
  • America’s Got Talent
  • OutDaughtered
  • Sister Wives
  • The Hunt with John Walsh
  • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2
  • Minions
  • Kevin from Work (still watching)
  • Prescription Thugs
  • Rizzoli and Isles (addicted! Still watching on Hulu)
  • Fixer Upper
  • The Out List
  • Ali Wong: Baby Cobra (comedy stand up)
  • Real Housewives of New York City

Eating:

I’ve been snacking a lot, not totally like healthy stuff. But I’m going to try to change that some. Haven’t been drinking nearly enough water again like I was a month ago so picking that habit back up.

Thinking about:

Hanging out with friends this weekend. Excited to see a few people I haven’t visited with in months (read: years). I’m excited to get my nails done and get some bills paid.

Looking forward to:

The end of the month when Justin (Sean’s buddy gamer online) is coming to town and we are going to the drag show! 🙂 HELL YEAH! It’ll be fun to have him here and show him around.

Enjoying:

Reading new blogs on  bloglovin’ and commenting back more again. I fell out of the habit of actually reading for fun and not just focusing on my own blog. I spent many hours last night when I couldn’t sleep, reading and saving posts that I loved.

Learning:

How to juggle the things in life. Sometimes it’s kinda a lot!

Loving:

All the sunshine!  🙂 Yay Spring/Summer!

What’s going on with you lately?
